Russia beats Andorra 2:0 in knockout tournament

Russia beat Andorra 2:0 in an away game as part of the qualifier for the 2012 World Football Championships. Both goals were scored by striker Pavel Pogrebnyak.

Russia’s main rivals in the B group, Ireland and Slovakia, beat Armenia and Macedonia 1:0.

Three teams have scored three points following the first day of playing, but Team Russian leads due to goal difference.

Next the Russians are due to take on the Slovak team in Moscow on the 7th of this month. Meanwhile the Belarusians have uncorked a sensation by winning from the French 1:0 at the Stade de France stadium in Paris.
