The Russian girls Yelena Dementyeva and Anastasia Pavliuchenkova have advanced to the last sixteen at the US Open.

Their next opponents are respectively Samantha Stosur of Australia and Francesca Schiavone of Italy.

In the men’s singles, Russia’s Mikhail Yuzhny is soldiering on. His next rival is John Isner of the hosting country.
