According to preliminary results os Sunday's referendum people in the Moldovan capital Chisinau voted overwhelmingly for direct presidential elections, with only 10 percent voting against.

The outcome of the referendum depends on the turnout, which must exceed 33.33 percent for the vote to be valid.

If the referendum fails to pass, a repeat plebiscite will be required, but only a year later.
