Israeli jet fighters have violated Lebanon’s airspace and have simulated attacks on the country’s southern areas.

According to the ITAR-TASS news agency, Lebanon’s air defence forces abstained from opening fire.

The Command of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon has described Israel’s move as breaching the relevant UN Security Council resolution.

But officials in Tel Aviv point out that the simulated attack has been prompted by the need to monitor the movement of Shia militants.

The Israeli ambassador to the United Nations said in a message to the Security Council yesterday that the Hezbollah Shia Islamist organization has deployed 15,000 fresh missiles along the Israeli border.
