The UN Secreatary-General Ban Ki-moon has condemned plans by an evangelical pastor in Florida to commit to flames a few copies of the Koran on the 9th anniversary of September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States. Ban Ki-moon said an action of this kind runs counter to the UN effort to promote tolerance and mutual respect among different confessions.

The US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and NATO Commander in Afghanistan David Petraeus have warned against the plans too saying that they are fraught with an upsurge in violence in both the United States and across the globe.
