Siberia forest fires on the rise

A new wave of forest fires has hit Siberia, with a 40-fold increase in fire occurrence rates, the Emergency Situations Ministry says.

A state of emergency has been announced in the Altai region, where a whole village and several houses nearby were burnt down. In three other villages fires were contained.

A new wave of forest fires has come from to Siberia from Kazakhstan, where at least six people were killed in the disaster.
