Appearing before a packed rally in the central square of Cairo Sunday, the Egyptian opposition leader, the former head of the International Atomic Energy Agency Mohamed El-Baradei announced a decision to lead an interim government that replaces the administration of President Hosni Mubarak. His appearance was extensively covered by the Al Arabiya television network.

In the meantime, hundreds of thousands of Egyptians are again in the streets to demand an immediate end to the thirty-year rule of their embattled President.

Mr Mubarak has been discussing the situation with senior Generals. Reports say he issued instructions to quell the revolt.
