Russian expats in the Syrian city of Idlib are reporting that militants have seized control of several Idlib neighborhoods, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
“According to the reports, several Idlib districts are being controlled by gunmen who are looting government offices and private houses,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in its official Twitter account earlier in the day.
The UN reported that about 6,000 people had died in the government crackdown in Syria since last March.
The authorities, in turn, claim that more than 2,000 policemen and servicemen have been killed in armed clashes with the opposition in the past ten months.
