The US will deploy four Aegis destroyers to Rota, Spain, as part of the European missile defense system.

According to US Navy spokesman Paul Macapagal, the first two ships will enter service in 2014, the third and fourth in 2015.

Reports by the Pentagon say that if necessary the destroyers will be moved to the Gulf and the Arabian Sea.
