Some one hundred former Guantanamo prison inmates have again engaged themselves in terrorist activities in their respective countries, said US National Intelligence Director James Clapper in a report, adding that 72 other former inmates are suspected of making attempts to resume ties with terrorists.

Relapses most frequently occur among natives of the countries where the situation is unstable, and where the terrorist network Al-Qaeda remains active.

Currently, there are some 170 inmates in the Guantanamo Bay detention camp.

Human rights activists have levelled scathing criticism at the United States for Washington’s refusal to shut down the Guantanamo prison, where inmates have been held for years without any charges officially brought against them.
