The declaration of autonomy from Tripoli by Libya’s Barqa region is a result of a foreign conspiracy, the Head of the National Transitional Council government, Mustafa Abdul Jalil has said in a statement. He feels that the declaration of autonomy poses a threat to national unity and the country’s territorial integrity.
Yesterday, the sheikhs of local tribes, politicians and the commanders of armed units who fought against the Muammar Gaddafi regime met in the environs of the city of Benghazi to declare a new federative entity on the oil-rich area that spreads from Sirte Bay to the Egyptian border.
