Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is leaving for Egypt where he will hold talks with Arab League representatives on the situation in Syria and Libya.
After Egypt, Lavrov will fly to New York to take part in a UN Security Council meeting on the Middle East and North Africa on March 12th .
Russia’s Ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin said earlier that Russia was concerned about reports that the Libyan authorities were running training centers for Syrian rebels.
Churkin made it clear that these kinds of activities on the part of the Libyan authorities undermined regional stability efforts in the Middle East.
In his turn, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov has warned that Russia will oppose any Security Council resolution on Syria which would suggest using force against it.
