Russia is satisfied with UN Security Council’s pragmatic position on Syria, Russia’s permanent envoy in the UN Vitaly Churkin told a press-conference in New York.

He was commenting the earlier statement the UN Security Council had made on Syria.

Churkin has expressed hope that with the support of the global community the Syrian people will succeed to reform the political system of their country peacefully.

Earlier, the UN Security Council called on the Syrian opposition to cooperate with Kofi Annan to settle the crisis in the country peacefully.

According to the statement of the Council’s chairman approved by the Council’s members, the efforts of the special envoy of the UN Secretary General and the Arab League were aimed at stopping violence and helping Syria transfer to adopt a democratic political system by means of a dialogue between the government and the opposition.
