Russia is marking Cosmonautics Day for the 50th time.
It was established on the 12th of April 1961 in honour of the first anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s space flight.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin presented government prizes in Moscow to veterans of space exploration Alexey Leonov, Valery Bykovsky, Boris Volynov, Viktor Gorbatko and the first lady-cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova.
Putin also held a conference on the development of cosmodromes at the Moscow Planetarium on Thursday.
