Twenty seven Syrians of Abkhaz origin arrived in Abkhazia’s capital of Sukhum on May 5. Another 12 families are expected to arrive as part of a repatriation program.
They will be residing in the Aytar hotel which was home to the UN mission and will have a four-month adaptation period.
Some 100 Abkhaz Syrians fleeing the volatile region are expected to return to Abkhazia during 2012.
According to Abkhazia’s Foreign Ministry, some 10,000 ethnic Abkhazians currently live in Syria.
