Zenit St. Petersburg and Italian national team’s defender Domenico Criscito has been questioned by Italian police over alleged football betting scheme, AFP quoted Ansa as saying today.
Among the 19 people arrested Monday by Italian police are several high-rating Italian players from the top league Series A, such as the capitan of the Rome-based FC Lazio, Stefano Mauri.
All of the arrested were charged with taking part in a match-fixing scam.
Lazio captain arrested in match-fixing probe
Lazio captain Stefano Mauri and Genoa midfielder Omar Milanetto have been arrested by Italian police as part of a match-fixing investigation.
19 people have been detained on suspicion of being part of an illegal international betting ring headed by Singapore's Tan Seet Eng, who was arrested in December.
Seraches have been made at the homes of a number of players and coaches of clubs in Serie A, Serie B and the lower division Lega Pro.
