French Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian is on a snap visit to Afghanistan to discuss matters with Afghan officials and meet with French troops.
He has already attended a memorial for four French soldiers who were killed by a suicide attacker in the northern Afghan province of Kapisa on Saturday. The attack also left five other French troops injured.
Reacting to this incident, President Francois Hollande promised his people a complete French pullback from Afghanistan in the next six months.
France currently stations some 3,500 service personnel on Afghan territory.
