The High Representative reiterated her call to the government and political groups of Iraq to launch a comprehensive dialogue to settle political differences, Ashton said in a statement.
According to her, "a government that can demonstrate national unity, representativeness and effectiveness, stands a greater chance in the struggle against ongoing violence.”
The EU High Representative also expressed condolences to families of those killed and wounded.
Earlier on Thursday, a similar statement was made by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
