The Constitutional Court is holding an open meeting on this issue at the request of the Communist and A Just Russia factions in parliament.

According to Communist Party and A Just Russia representatives, since the Protocol doesn’t meet a number of provisions of the Constitution, the procedure of ratifying the treaty should be suspended pending the Constitutional Court’s decision.

The Protocol on Russia’s accession to the WTO has to be ratified by July 23rd .

Russia has been seeking membership in the WTO for 17 years.
