Despite heavy rain the ceremony was attended by the country’s leaders, representatives of the diplomatic missions and public representatives. Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent congratulations to the leadership of Moldova.
Recent opinion polls have revealed controversial attitudes towards the holiday among citizens.
Many of them think that in the years of independence they lost more than they gained. Moldova is one the poorest countries in Europe. Its economy was destroyed and the unemployment made almost half of the employable people leave the country.
