The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department issued a statement saying that Mr. Tadahiro Matsushita, the Minister of Postal Reforms and Financial Services, had been found dead at his home in Tokyo. He was 73.
Police confirmed the investigation was under way, but gave no further comment.
Matsushita was appointed to the post in June by Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda.
