According to the Israeli General Staff, the exercise will help check if the army is capable of conducting a major military operation or even waging a war.
The Israeli military started fortifying border defences on the Golan Heights after an agreement with the UN monitors. The Israelis are mounting dozens of state-of-the-art surveillance devices and laying mines in the frontier zone. Israel occupied the Syrian Golan Heights in 1967.
