The sanctions are to be aimed against Iran’s energy, financial, trade and transport sectors because these main fields have special significance for Iran’s nuclear programme.
EU sanctions against Iran’s financial and oil sectors already came into effect on the 1st of July.
Russian representative in the UN Vitaly Churkin confirmed Russia’s position concerning the sanctions at the UN Security Council’s session. Churkin said that Moscow fulfilled all the Security Council’s resolutions on Iran in the full amount but Moscow is against introducing additional unilateral sanctions against that country.
