The Diaghilev.PS arts and ballet festival has opened in St. Petersburg. At a press conference ahead of the opening, the event’s organizer, renowned choreographer John Neumeier, recalled his first premiere in Russia - the ballet “Midsummer Night’s Dream” based on Shakespeare’s play.
This time, Neumeier brought his Hamburg Ballet and his other ballet troupe, Youth Ballet, which performs at schools, homes for elderly people and prisons.
On Monday, the choreographer inaugurated an exhibition dedicated to famous Russian ballet dancer Vaslav Nijinsky at the St. Petersburg Museum of Theater and Music.
On display are unique items from Neumeier’s own collection. The festival will run through November 9.
