Sergei Lavrov and Nasser Joda voiced grave concern about the escalation of violence, the continued shelling of Israeli territory and disproportionate strikes on the Gaza Strip, the exacerbation of humanitarian problems of the population.
The armed confrontation around the Gaza Strip has been drastically aggravated in recent days.
Rockets have been fired from Gaza into Israel and retaliatory strikes delivered for the fourth day now. Some 40 Palestinians have died since the hostilities erupted.
Three Israeli civilians have also died in a Palestinian rocket attack. Yesterday, the Israeli government put some 75,000 reservists on alert and vowed to intensify air raids into the Gaza Strip in retaliation for a rocket attack on Jerusalem.
