Currently the troops are conducting street by street sweeps and clearing any pockets of resistance so that civilians may return to their homes.

For three weeks, the city was in the hands of the extremist group "Victorious Front” which is associated with "al-Qaeda." They turned the town into a base of operations from where they launched attacks while using the civilian population as human shields.

In an interview with the Voice of Russia military expert and Syrian General Muhammad Isa, stated that there were several thousand armed insurgents in Darayya.

After their defeat dozens of soldiers and officers of the Turkish national army were identified as being among the prisoners.

The terrorists were planning to seize the military airport at Mezza and aircraft to start bombing residential districts of Damascus said the general.
