Russian Railways was building the Syrt-Benghazi railroad which was to run along the Mediterranean coast and join several large cities. Later it was to become part of an international transport corridor in the north of Africa.
However, due to disorders in Libya that began in February 2011 Russian Railways had to suspend the construction.
