This warning was voiced by European Parliament President Martin Schultz addressing European leaders at the summit in Brussels. "Proposals by EU Council President Herman Van Rompuy on the future European economic and monetary union do not contain any mention of the need for social protection of citizens", - said Schultz.
According to him, in conditions of crisis, "Europeans more than ever need a strong and comprehensive system of social protection”.
The conspicuous absence of this notion in the concept of the EU’s economic reforms "sparks serious concern of Euro Parliament deputies".
Schultz emphasized the need to provide Europeans with better employment opportunities and affordable housing "- all that the crisis deprived them of.
