Rocco Favara, scientific head of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in Palermo, where the mysterious object was handed, told the Voice of Russia, at what stage the study of the unknown object was:

“The found object was handed to the Institute on December 17. At the moment we are carrying out its examination. But after the first general analysis we tend to exclude the version of a meteorite, as it seems to us, we are dealing with a piece of burned wood. Within 24 hours we will carry out all necessary studies and announce our conclusionofficially.”
