He urged his successors to continue pursuing the common European policy even if it causes criticism. Monti said that Italy has survived through the most difficult period and has solved its problems without asking the European Central Bank for help. Italians made sacrifices that should not be ignored, Monti said.
The ex-Prime Minister warned that no immediate economic growth is to be expected straight after taking austerity measures.
Monti who was the head of the Italian ‘technical government’ for 13 months stepped down last Friday.
