In several southeastern suburbs of Damascus, their rebel defenders are laying down arms. In villages and orchards east of the Syrian capital, scattered groups of 15 to 50 armed rebels are desperately trying to evade entrapment.
The army says it is determined to crush the rebels and chase them out of Syria.
Peace envoy Brahimi enters Syria - Lebanon official
International peace envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi has entered the country and is on his way to Damascus, a Lebanese border official said on condition of anonymity.
"The international envoy crossed the Lebanese-Syrian border at about 2:00 pm (1200 GMT)," the official said, following reports by a security official that Brahimi had flown into Beirut International Airport.

Syrian troops clean up area around Damascus
The Syrian governmental troops are cleaning up the territory around Damascus. According to local media, south-eastern suburbs are the main are of combat actions.
On Saturday, the security forces killed several leaders of the insurgents. In the area of Shebaab at attack of the insurgents on the camp of the engineering troops was repelled.
The electricity wires which were damaged during the combats have been restored.
Meanwhile the insurgents attacked the check points in Dumar, near the barracks of the 105 division, which is protecting the president’s palace. This attack was also repelled.
