Mr. Lukashevich has again denied the allegations that Syrian armed forces was using chemical weapons against opposition insurgents and stressed the West was trying to justify a possible military invasion in the country.
He reiterated the official Russian stand that the Syrian conflict had no military solution.
The Russian foreign spokesman also rejected the rumours alleging that Russia and the US had agreed on a joint road map for Syria.
There are certain discrepancies between Russia and the West on the implementation of the Geneva Convention, Alexander Lukashevich said. “Our colleagues have made a U-turn in their stance [on Syria],” he added, pointing out that the West was insisting on a dialogue exclusively with the opposition, which ran counter to the Geneva communiqué.
He pointed out provisions agreed on in Geneva were obligatory for everyone to follow.
However, Mr. Lukashevich said he didn’t exclude the possibility of Moscow ever getting in touch with Syria’s National Coalition. “Moscow is open to a dialogue with any opposition group,” Polina Chernitsa cited him as saying Thursday.
Russian foreign chief Sergei Lavrov is holding a round of consultations with Syria’s Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Meqdad, Mr. Lukashevich told reporters.
He said Russia wasn’t pulling its citizens out of the war-torn region yet. However he stressed Moscow had a road map for any outcome of the Syrian crisis.
