Turkey locks down border with Syria
According to security services, a suicide bomber set off his car bomb outside the headquarters of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in Kirkuk, in the north of Iraq, on Wednesday.
A blast resounded outside the branch of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan in the town of Tuz Khourmatu earlier today.
The party is led by Iraqi President Jalal Talabani. Kurdistan is an oil-rich autonomous region in the north of Iraq.
The situation around Kurdistan was aggravated several months ago after the local authorities and officials in Baghdad deployed additional military units on the region’s border.
23 die in terrorist attacks in Iraq
At least 23 people have died in a spate of terrorist attacks in Iraq, while 226 others have been injured.
According to the France Presse news agency, at least 10 people died when a suicide bomber set off his car bomb outside the headquarters of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in Kirkuk.
Terrorist attacks were also launched in the capital city Baghdad.
Iraq: Wave of attacks kills at least 19
A wave of attacks in Baghdad and north of the Iraqi capital killed at least 19 people and wounded 168 others on Wednesday, security and medical officials said.
The deadliest attack struck in the ethnically-mixed northern city of Kirkuk where a car bomb detonated by a suicide attacker killed at least 10 people and wounded 140 others, according to provincial health chief Sadiq Omar Rasul.
