Izzat al-Rishq, a member of Hamas' political bureau, said on Thursday the two factions had agreed to start preparations for general elections and hold consultations on forming a unity government. He added that the agreement had been reached during talks in Cairo between Fatah and Hamas delegations which had earlier agreed to unfreeze the reconciliation process.
The agreement envisages, among other things, the reinstatement in Gaza of the Palestinian Central Electoral Commission, consultations on a unity government and an end to “provocative” campaigns against each other.
