The child is reported to have been given up for adoption in Ukraine’s city of Donetsk. Russia has informed Ukrainian diplomatic corps of the incident.
In the US, the child victim was known as Andrew Arthur Butler. He died at the age of 13 in June 2011.
The boy was killed by his foster father, William Allan Butler, who shot at his head. The 73-year-old called the police, saying he was acting in self-defense.
Mr. Butler told officers he had taken the boy out into the backyard for a target shooting practice. As he was setting up the target, he allegedly heard a shot and fired at the boy, thinking the latter was trying to kill him.
William Butler bargained with the court and pled guilty to criminal negligence. He was convicted to a jail term for giving a charged gun to a minor.
