February 10 is a sad day for Russian literature. On this day exactly 175 years ago, the country’s number one poet Alexander Pushkin died from a lethal wound sustained in a duel. Pushkin’s death struck a deep emotional chord among his contemporaries and has been widely reflected upon in the writing community ever since.

The Ostromir Gospels, the second oldest dated East Slavic book, has been included in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Programme, an international initiative launched to preserve the documentary heritage of humanity.
