A volcano called Plosky Tolbachik began erupting on the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia’s Far East on November 27, when two huge fissures with seething, viscous lava were spotted by volcanologists on its southern slope during a regular helicopter tour.
The Tolbachik volcano is a volcanic complex, which consists of two volcanoes, 3.085m-high Plosky (flat)Tolbachik and 3.682m-high Ostry (sharp) Tolbachik. The nearest village, Klyuchi, is located 60 kilometers away from its foot.
