US considers NATO supply route via Russian Far East

The US wants to deliver supplies for its troops in Afghanistan through Russia’s Far East, according to the commander of US Transportation, General Duncan McNabb.

As he spoke to US Congress, he said the route could become part of the Northern Distribution Network created by the Pentagon.

The system is aimed at cutting the costs of deliveries to Afghanistan, as well as bypassing the dangers of Pakistan.

At the moment, supplies coming from Turkey are passing through the Central Asian parts of Russia.

The issue will be on the table during Hillary Clinton’s visit to Moscow, which started on Thursday.
